“Flying” high from two of the best reggae/dub albums this entire decade, Off World and its funhouse mirror dub remix/remodel World Inversion, Boston’s FVs keep momentum bubbling on an enthralling live document from Cambridge’s local Lizard Lounge, December 12, 2025. I don’t know what’s better, the high-groove ’70s reggae rhythms on seven covers—rock steady gems by The Saints, Junior Byles, and Jimmy Cliff (R.I.P.), but also post-punk (fantastic Wipers!), jazz (Sun Ra, Alain Goraguer), and Stax soul (Eddie Floyd)—or 10 fresh originals such as the mesmeric “Astral Underground” and two Clash-adjacent wonders, “Two Twenties Clash” and a quietly breathtaking “Existential Dread at the Controls.” Mission of Burma legend Roger Miller adds to the fun twice, and when handed a mic, Kellee Webb remains honey-throated, whilst the band’s Sly & Robbie-esque Beaudette brothers, guitarist Sean Acker, keyboardist Zack Brines, and Andy Bergman and Brian Paulding’s sharp, spicy horns are all stars.
